Movie Poster Promo

Our gifted and talented teacher now has us doing a movie poster for a fake movie trailer. The main characters in my movie trailer are Jerry and Billy who are just trying to babysit, the parent and the baby who is kidnapped! This story is about a baby getting kidnapped and Jerry and Billy trying to find the baby before the parent comes home. The setting is the home of the adult and the baby. Jerry and Billy Are just trying to find the baby that is kidnapped and get him home. There is just one thing, they have no clue where the baby is. When they are trying to find the baby however it shows where the baby is the whole time. They just need a little extra help (and brains) to find the "kidnapped" baby.

The text in my movie poster are critiques for the movie. For example walt disney created this movie trailer and they got critiques from times magazine. It said "This is the best film, it kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to learn more on the whereabouts of the baby".  Kerning is a technique for a great movie poster. What kerning is, is it's the spacing of the letters, this is very important because you don't want to see a movie poster with unevenly spaced letters. Now that just looks unprofessional. Kerning is a very important skill to have handy with you because it is more appealing, for example what looks better this, or t  hi   s.  Use this kerning program to sharpen your kerning skills: Kerning Game.

The layer effects I used on my movie poster made a huge impact. The layer effects that were required were: Drop Shadow, Stroke, Bevel & Emboss. I have completed all of the requirements for this task so far. The effects made the words pop out off the page and made the words look like rock. The filters I used was on the actual picture as you see in the picture above. The filter I used was a distortion that made the picture look rough. Others used the filter to make it look like they were traveling through time and space. What filters do is they retouch your photos and made them look finished. Now here is my finished movie poster:

Proactive or Procrastination?

Don't Be a procrastinator and hold on to your idea
Personally I think I am a procrastinator. Some people may say that I am a good worker and stay on task, which is true. Sometimes. When I like the work I am doing then I do the work, I stay on task and I do it well. However if it is something that I don't like to do such as social studies or history I talk to my friends I goof off and I don't get things done. I also always do something that really bothers me. I always say I am using my time wisely but I am not. I say that I will do some today and some later. I still get things done but not as efficiently, if I was going to get things done early then I would get things in on time instead. I don't really want to be a procrastinator and I want to change, I guess why I do this is because I want more free time each day.

Don't Be a procrastinator and whatever you do
DON'T GET SUCKED INTO THE COUCH
The level of my productivity relates to my free time by getting things done. What I mean by that statement is that when I get things done I have a bunch of free time. When I don't though, I have not as much free time. What I do in my free time is I just go on the computer, play games and sometimes watch youtube. I don't do very much in my free time because I don't have very much to do in my free time. I don't surf, I do have a boogie board but I don't go on it very much. I don't play any sports or are on a sports team, I do have some sports equipment but I have no one to play with, their usually doing work. My mom also has me do a certain schedule that makes me work almost everyday academically. The schedule is: on monday I do khan academy( (math), on tuesdays I explore the microscope we borrowed from the school, on wednesdays I have to do teenbiz3000 and it has to be a 100% or I will have to do it again, thursdays I do a thing called i-ready which our school just started doing, fridays my mom makes me research greek and roman engineering, last of all on saturdays I do more I-Ready. So, when I do my work, including my moms schedule, I have a lot of free time although when I don't do my work I do not have a lot of free time.

What I would change about my work habits is trying harder. When ver something is really hard I usually just try it a couple times more increasingly trying less and less and then I just give up. I don't like the way I do that but it is just the way I am. I was a born procrastinator and I don't like it. If I could change anything about my work habits I would probably say I want to try a little harder before I give up. I am working on doing that now by taking around 5 minute breaks then trying it my best all over again until either it gets too late or I get to the point where I say "I need someone else's help because I am going no where with this." All in all what I am trying to say is don't be a procrastinator, be proactive and always try your hardest at the most difficult of times. Don't be like me and give up.

My Visual Poem

My visual poem was about imagination. How this made an impact was by saying how everyone has imagination even when you sleep. When you sleep you can imagine pretty much anything and you can even lose your imagination. Thats how I end the video by saying that you lost it. Then I say you can still get it back though. My visuals made an impact because without the visuals it would just be plain video and it would be boring. With the effects though, you could make it look like you were flying or make it tinted.

How my special effects make the meaning of it by coloring it and making it sad or happy. Also I panned some things with the ken burns effect. What the ken burns effect does is it gives you a start and an end point where you can change the start and end point to make it smaller or bigger and you can make it pan zoom in and out. My visuals tried to make my poem a little bit deeper with meaning, and tried to give it a little help with understanding. It made my overall meaning even better than if I were to have it without any effects.

I think rating my poem I would give it a 8/10. I rated it this way because I think it is the best I could have done but there will always be room for improvement. Even if I think it is the best thing imaginable someone else could come and say oh this is wrong and so is this. Also I can think of some things that I could have improved on, and that is the exposure on some of the shots. Some of the shots are a bit too bright.  Also some of the shots are a bit tilted. Which in some shots it just sets the mood but in some other shots it looks amateur. This is my poem plan I used to help myself to complete this:

Finished News Story

My story was about a weather pattern in Hawaii that is currently in progress. What my story was about is how El Nino is affecting people and just plain out what is El Nino. One of the main contributors was Preston Hayden who did the video editing, which to me is the most important job of all. All together the intended result was to finish it and do it well which in my opinion we excelled at that. From our rough cut we have improved a lot and that was really my goal on this. Our rough cut had camera movement, a bunch of slanted horizons and not very well light interview shots, but I guess thats why we call it a rough cut. So we can go above and beyond in our final cut.

The final cut turned out better than I thought it would. The reason that is, is because we sometimes, well a lot of times we goofed off and didn't get to work, but preston said ok we need to work and we actually got things done. Not to make preston sound like a buzz kill he also had fun except he got things done first, and then play. I am very happy with my video because of all the work we put into it. I honestly feel though if we had more time we could have done better, but in the time period we did amazing.

My critique results were good. It wasn't how I expected with 6 votes for a two but other than that I was proud of my work. We got 6 votes for two 14 votes for a three and 7 votes for a four. I also was not expecting a vote to go on Hiki No. If you want to see other videos go on other peoples blogs to see their video they posted. The other stories (as you can see to the above) was water safety, which won, Xbox versus Playstation, Ms. lardizibal the music teacher, A gluten free diet, Sports authority, Health and obesity rate, Mrs. Sanderl artist and teacher and our news story on El Nino.

Real World Report

Our new G.T portfolio project is doing a real world news story and describing it. What I did my story on was a Chinese professor spoke out against the police and got arrested for life and his life savings account of 800,000 yuan ($162,000). He was accused for separatism of the Hans Chinese and the ethnic Uighur's. Separatism is when someone tries to separate two or more large groups of people be their race, skin color, gender or ethnicity. If he was trying to separate the groups then he would be an important figure in trying to separate the Han Chinese and the ethnic Uighur's.

My opinion on this issue is simple. I feel he should have gone to jail for his life but I feel he shouldn't have had his account frozen. I feel this way because he has a family to take care of and without that money his family won't be able to live on. So, I think it is okay to take away his life, but not his families. What they did to him in jail was treat him harshly because he didn't admit to his crime and because they new he was a great figure for separating the two Chinese groups and they didn't want anyone following his footsteps.

I think this is important information to know because people need to know it is their right to speak up. I know you hear this campaign all the time stop bullying speak up or its ok to speak up. I am not trying to sound like that because personally i think those campaigns come up as an add way too often. What I am trying to say is you don't have to speak up, but if you want to make a difference you can. I understand why he did it, but if it were up to me I would just be a bystander.

Lessons Learned

These are my lessons learned about my G.T project for Hiki No about El Nino. First The most interesting part of my project is that it is about weather patterns and how they effect you in your everyday life. That personally to me is pretty cool. Also My personal favorite part is that we might be going on television. It is a great opportunity for a lot of things. For example if you want to get a message to everyone than it would be a great choice for television. Also I just plain out like hanging out with my friends. Actually the very very most interesting part of my project are the b-roll shots. They are the most interesting part because we, just this year, learned how to do time lapses, and to me that is spectacular.

The biggest roadblock my team had would probably be that my team argues a lot of the time and it kind of get irritating after a while. Well i don't think its really arguing but we yell at each other a lot. Also we cant find a very good time film. We tried to find a date but at first we couldn't get in contact with Jason, in the end we did but we had to postpone the meeting. Partially the reason is that Preston Quinn and I are in seventh grade and Jason is in sixth. And the sixth and seventh graders are separated by boundaries, so if Jason is in the sixth grade pod than we can't get to him because of the boundaries.

The most valuable part of filming is the editing. If we were to not have editing then we would make a really bad piece. For example it would be harder to transcribe because what we did to transcribe is slowed down the footage so we can hear it clearly. Also if we didn't have editing then we couldn't edit out the mistakes. For example we made some noise while filming, but with editing you can edit out the noise. Also if you don't have editing and you filmed something that was good but shot it for too long then you will have to use the footage. The composition techniques are also very important because if you ever want to get on T.V than you will have to have rule of thirds and  maybe some other composition techniques.

HikiNo Behind The Scenes

Hi guys its me, sorry you havent heard from me in a while i was at my summer camp. I just want to tell you that, like last year, we are doing another Hiki No project. Except this time we are either doing a profile story or a news story. My team for Hiki No is Preston Hayden, Quinn Consylman and Jason Hoy, so our team has three 7th graders and one 6th grader. Even though Mr.Sanderl said that no returning G.T students should be on the same Hiki No team me and Preston got put together because we didn't have a team to go on yet. We chose to do a news story instead of a profile story. If you don't know what they are basically a news story is a story of news stating facts about your topic. A profile story is a story based on one person and could have opinions included.

What happens behind the scenes? You may be wondering. I will tell you what our proccess is: First we thought of what our project was going to be about. This was especially hard because our team was a t a disagreement. One person was saying do this and someone else was saying do something different. For example someone was saying do a Twinkie factory while someone else was saying do how I moved to kauai and I was saying we should do something about someone else and so forth. Secondly we filled out a pitch sheet which Mr.Sandrel gave us to fill out. He said it would help get us organized, and it did. Without that pitch sheet we wouldn't know what to do. Next we went out and filmed our interview/B-roll.

I think one thing I can do to help my team is mediate the discussions so there is less arguing. What i mean by arguing is that my team sometimes can be jolly old good buddies, and sometimes we can say things that may not be so nice. yes we can get a little worked up at some points in our life but we still need to mediate our actions and feelings. For example one day Me Jason and Quinn were calling preston and we kind of snapped out at him for going on the bus instead of staying and helping film. Also check out my sisters blog who is also in G.T Loren Weiner. Now here are two pictures of our sneak peak behind the scenes work:

The Expirement

For my Photoshop experiment I played around with the gradients. I used different layers of gradients and changed the opacity according to how far from the bottom layer it was. I also added a some messages that blend in pretty well with the rest of the image. I used all the gradient patterns in Photoshop and used a lot of different colors. I might still work on it to make it better yet, but for now here it is:

Back To School

I am back in school and now I am in 7th grade. My favorite moment so far in the school year was seeing all my old friends from last year. Now we have to wear black shirts! Also they didn't have any size smaller than the one I'm wearing so I'm stuck with an over sized T-shirt. I like all my teachers this year, they are all really nice. There is now something called an I-Ready test that tells you whether or not you need extra help in math or English. So far I am taking my math I -Ready, and this is the last day. Next week I am taking my English I-Ready. To be successful this year I plan to study a lot.

Metamorphosis Animation

The most recent project we did was the Metamorphosis Animation Project. What we did for this project was create an animation with stykz, digital, stop motion, and claymation. We had to do at least two types of animation for this project and my team did digital animation claymation and stop motion. Our story was Craneman Gathers Knowledge. We did the first scene as the clay ball, another character, going through portals and appearing through another portal. Our second scene was craneman forming. How craneman forms is he comes out as an egg and he starts to unravel as the nest becomes flatter and we go through the steps on how to make an origami crane. Our third scene was craneman going to a desert and gathering knowledge from a snake. Our forth scene was craneman gathering knowledge from an action figure and clayball and craneman fighting with him.On my team was Raiden Kurisu, Oriia Niitsu and Timothy Blum.Raiden did all the origami because he was the origami whiz.Except when he was sick, thats when we faced our biggest challenge. We didn't have the origami master so we couldn't do our scene.I don't think our animation went that well because we were kind of rushed and we switched our topic in the middle of the project because we figured the project was going nowhere.

On the bright side we didn't get all needs improvement on the critique we did.Although our team didn't get any votes for the best animation we still did pretty good.Except for the fact that when we changed our video we lost the theme of metamorphosis. At first our topic was a ball going through a portal and ending up on a ship, then turning into a sea serpent. After that the sea serpent was supposed to face a wizard and get turned into a kitten and so on.So, you can see why we changed our topic.

Life Here

I like life in Hawaii.I can now really get all my energy out of me.Life back in New York was cool also and all, I mean like I was in the city why would I want to move away from there. It had a lot of the national monuments, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building.Plus I had made all my friends there. Why would I want to move?Well guess what,I didn't!My parents made me![leave a comment if you think this is fair or unfair.]I don't think I can complain though,It is a very cool and exotic place.

Words of Wisdom

This new project, words of wisdom, was a lot of hard work. On my team I had Leleaka Anakelea, Lilio Masi, and Loren Weiner. Go check out their blogs and keep updated with them! I think this project was hard because I got paired up with people I didn't know and it taught me a lesson, don't be afraid to work with new people. It also allowed me to know the person we interviewed. We did our interview about Leleaka's uncle who came to Kauai with only a tiny amount of money and a dream, and his dream was to surf. Now he has fulfilled his dream and more, he now has a family and has grand kids. We worked on this a bunch of times during lunch, and once after school. So, as you can see we worked painstakingly hard on this project. Luckily we got the project in on time, well sort of. Our teacher let all the groups,if they weren't finished with their project, work after class. My project is also about taking risks because the man could have just stayed in California in cold water surfing, but no he decided that he was going to take a risk, to go to another state, explore new lands, see what he could do with his life there. Now this is my project:

Five Tips For

I GOT INTO Hiki No!!! Thats right the Hawaiian P.B.S winner for this project was me. [sorry if this sounds a bit like i'm bragging to you, I was just really exited.]I did my project on making good friends. Who I worked with was Raiden Kurisu and Dylan Niide. It was really fun doing this project mainly because I just got to hang around with my friends after each recording.I would have to say the most fun part of it was doing the bloopers just because we were bored. We didn't add the bloopers in to our video though, but they were pretty funny. We first thought we were going to win for the sixth graders in our class and the seventh graders would win.Once we found out that we won we were so exited but we still had to compete with the other winners in G.T or gifted and talented program, since there were more than one G.T class. Now this is our Hiki No winning piece:

Practice Profile Story

I did a practice profile story before my real profile story. What I did my practice on is Lele likes to sing, Lele is the oldest person in our group.I didn't get to pick my partner though because the teams were already set and me and my sister couldn't pick, there were only two other people left.So I kind of got put with them.I am not saying that's a bad thing they turned out to be really cool so I'm happy I got partnered up with them. The story we chose was about how Lele likes to sing and it was a bit hard shooting it because we had to do the B-Roll first not the interview because there were only so many lavaliere microphones.A lavaliere microphone is what they use on camera so it is tiny and not visible.I like being at KMS it is fun.Come check it out!

Profile Project Progress

My new G.T work is on interviewing someone older than me to get their words of wisdom. My interview is about my teammates uncle who's words of wisdom is to never be afraid of taking risks. He takes a risk by moving from California  to Kauai with very little money a bag and no one to accompany him.He soon opened up a family run business called kayak Hanalei. My group did this project because well we couldn't think of anything else, also when we thought of him we said that sounds good it is about risk taking and not being afraid.

We needed B-roll to make our plot more interesting and to show them what we are talking about. B-Roll is a footage that allows you to cover-up anything that you don’t want people to see or if you want someone to see what the interviewee is talking about. We also needed voice-overs to help the audience understand or to clarify what the interviewee is saying.A voice-over is a technique to help understand what is happening in your story.these are just two components of the many techniques that you use for video taking. In my opinion these two are the most useful.

I think my team can work better by getting to know each other more.I think that if we know each other more we can work together better because you would feel more comfortable.I also think I could have done more to help because sometimes I would do what is less important rather than doing the shot list or key words.A shot list is planning out your B-Roll for your wide shot medium shot and close shot. This is my groups shot list for our interview.

I think I could also work better by making the interview a little bit shorter because our video is five and a half minutes, frame for the videos time is 3-3 and a half minutes.I think it is that long because of our interviewee responses, though my teammates think that all we need to do is cut out some of what our interviewee said.I also think that we could improve our audio because some voices sound louder than others, for example the voice-over sounds louder than the actual interviewees voice. This is what other people think about our videos audio, story, visuals and overall quality.

Composition Techniques

The first four composition techniques are rule of thirds, framing, unusual angles and leading lines. These are important because they are techniques to having a more interesting video or picture you should use them because it could add more meaning to your picture or draw attention to a specific thing that you want people to focus on.Leading lines is good for doing this. Leading lines are lines that lead to the picture that you were originally supposed to look at. There are ten other composition techniques, and they are Emotion, Action, Close up, Reaction, Contrast in Content, repetition of shape, group shot, parts of a whole, horizontal and vertical. In all there are 14 different composition techniques .These are all the composition techniques, some may be better than others for certain pictures or video's though. For example group shot may be good for an ending of a school play to introduce all the characters at once and for the characters to take a final bow. This is my example of the main four composition techniques,do you like them they were a fun project to do and a great way to learn.

Three Shot Sequences

This is my video of three shot sequences that me and my team did.My team was me Dylan Niide and Raiden Kurisu .A three shot sequence are three shots where the first shot is a wide shot the second shot is a medium and the last shot is a close/extreme close. At first we had a bit of trouble finding a thing to do our sequence on.We also had trouble with the sequence shots on how to shoot it.In the end I think it turned out really well, what do you think of it.For additional information go here sequence and variety shooting or here shooting a short sequence  .Now I give you my video, it still may not be finished but as you can tell it was kind of hard. Now I challenge you to make your own three shot sequence.

Practice Story Reflection

In G.T I made a project where you had to interview someone in your group and write a story about it. We did our interview about how Leleaka Likes to sing. Leleaka is someone in my group that was the oldest person. Since she was the oldest person there and the project we were doing was about how old people have a lot of wisdom. I think I did well on this project but could have a lot of improvement. The people I worked with, the people in my group were, Lilio Masi, Loren Weiner and Leleaka Anakalea go check out their blogs as well.

I think we could have improved by making better choices because our team finished late and had to come in at lunch recess. I also think that I could have spoke up more because most of the time I was sitting there asking what can I do. I think we did good because even though we finished late I think it came out really good. When my teacher first said to pair up with people that live close to you I knew no one lives close to me. It kind of worked out in the end though because we found people who were planning to meet in the area I lived in.

I am afraid of what might happen now that everyone is finished and we get graded and the whole team gets the same grade. I paired up with someone I hardly knew but the first day we got together I thought oh this might work out. It did work out for most of the part but toward the end of our time limit one of the people were absent. We stretched through it though. This was a big challenge.

Spherical polar panoramas

These are my two Spherical polar panoramas that I did in G.T in second quarter. I took 10-15 pictures in a 360 degree circle put them together in photoshop by using photo merge. Then I put my picture in that you see in the top panorama.I took these pictures at my house in my yard. How I could have improved this is make my shadow not pop out in the sky and to do that I would go back into photoshop and select the picture then press command to have more control over the shadow. Also in my Panorama I could have covered the line up a bit more to make it perfect.

All About Me

I am a student at Kapa'a Middle School, I like it here it is fun. I used to live in new york and it was cool, but now I can finally be a tourist there! I am very hyper all the time and always optimistic. I am addicted to Minecraft because it is fun and want to play it every second of my life.I have a google account that I use in the program gifted and talented at my school. We also use photoshop and final cut pro and its cool I learn a lot everyday.

Usually I like to stay at home and use electronics like play computer games or watch T.V. I am an honors student that always does his homework.  I also have a fun side to me like ... did you know I can shoot a B.B gun? Also that I went to honolulu and went to a shooting place? I am a creative person usually but when it comes to creative writing, I stink. For some reason I just cant come up with anything.

I am also very athletic. No not in the I can throw the baseball 10 yards or I can run 26 miles, I just like to do sports stuff. Unlike a lot of other people I DON'T LIKE PIE! everyone looks at me funny when I say that and their probably thinking "Is that guy crazy everyone likes pie." Well its not that I don't like pie its just that I just don't want it. I tried one that was really bad and I never wanted to try it again.

Polar Panorama

This is my finished polar Panorama from G.T. It could be better like that shadow could be lighter or the shadow could be off the sky. I used the Quick Selection Tool to get the cut out image of myself. I was posing on the ground and someone else was standing on top of a school taking pictures of me, they were standing on top of the stool because the polar panorama makes it look like your looking from a birds eye view. Also to make it look like I am popping out of the world.I took 10-15 pictures from left to right in a full 360 degree circle, I put the images together in photoshop by photo merge and then made the images into a square turned the square upside down and used polar coordinates to make my polar panorama.

Final Photomontages

These are my two finished photomontages that I created at KMS. I first took pictures from multiple perspectives. Then combined them together rotated them and sized them up and down to make this.David Hockney made up this method and called it "joiners."This is basically cubism art because it is not like anything else. It is abstract.

magazine cover

This is my magazine cover that I created during 2013 at Kapaa middle school for GT. I used brush layers copy and pasted the layer and much more in and out of photoshop. I think I also think I could have made my subtitles a bit more see through.Otherwise I think I did A decent job on it. What do you think of it? I put a lot of time and effort into it.I think this might go into my Artist portfolio.
